Bhojpur. Oranges worth Rs 352.8 million have been exported from the district this year. The Bhojpur Agricultural Knowledge Center has informed that when 4,200 metric tons of oranges were exported, an amount equal to that amount entered the district.
Although orange cultivation has been expanded to 950 hectares here, oranges planted in 790 hectares are producing, informed Mukesh Kumar Yadav, Chief of the Agricultural Knowledge Center. So far, there is data that oranges worth Rs 352.8 million have been exported from the district, Chief Yadav said.
‘Oranges worth more than Rs 350 million have been exported from the district this year,’ said Chief Yadav. ‘Oranges expanded to 790 hectares here are producing. The quantity of oranges exported from here is expected to increase further in the coming days.’ He said that the office has been providing necessary support to farmers to encourage them to grow oranges.
Chief Yadav said that he has been working on-site to provide information to farmers about diseases and pests affecting oranges, along with handing over necessary equipment. He said that orange farming is a good source of income for the farmers here.
‘Recently, farmers of Bhojpur have been attracted towards orange farming,’ he said. ‘We have been providing necessary training and technical support to the farmers engaged in orange farming. Every year, there is more area for expansion of farming here.’ Oranges are produced at all local levels of the district. Orange pocket areas have been expanded in Bhojpur Municipality, Shadananda Municipality and Temkemaiyung Rural Municipality, which produce the most oranges.
Farmers are getting better prices for oranges, which were previously sold only in local markets, as road access expanded and they began to reach outlying districts. The Agricultural Knowledge Center has stated that oranges produced here are going to cities including Dharan, Itahari, Biratnagar, Kathmandu and others. The office says that oranges worth Rs 290 million were exported from Bhojpur last year. The office has stated that orange production has increased this year compared to last year.
