Kathmandu. Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Poudel has said that everyone’s cooperation is needed to ensure that no adolescent girl is deprived of the HPV vaccination campaign. Speaking at today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, he said that the government’s goal is to prevent cancer and identify it early.
He said, “We have adopted a strategy to ensure that cervical cancer is no longer a public health problem.” The goal is to vaccinate 90 percent of those aged 10 to 14, test 90 percent of those over 30 for cervical cancer, and treat 90 percent of those diagnosed with cervical cancer by 2030.’
Stateing that the government has a vision to improve the living standards of cancer patients by reducing the burden and mortality rate of cancer, Minister Poudel said, ‘Cancer accounts for 11 percent of Nepal’s total deaths. We have declared the month of Falgun as the ‘screening’ month for non-communicable diseases and made arrangements to test 500,000.’
He said that the vaccination coverage in the vaccination campaign that started on Magh 22 has reached 27.68 percent so far, and 464,062 people have been vaccinated so far. MP Sumana Shrestha questioned whether the budget for vaccination was assured even later. MP Prem Suwal said that the problem was that the hospital did not provide treatment, saying that it did not receive health insurance funds.
MP Lekhnath Dahal said that although serious diseases are cheap, treatment is expensive, and demanded that government hospitals be made accessible to the people. MP Tosima Karki demanded that the problems of resident doctors be resolved. MPs Hitraj Pandey, Binita Kathayat, Sita Kumari Rana, Roshan Karki, Tshiring Lama, Ramhari Khatiwada, and Prem Bahadur Maharjan asked Minister Poudel questions on various health issues.
