Kathmandu. Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has said that it is necessary to regulate online media to strengthen national unity, independence and self-respect. Speaking at a program organized in Bhaktapur on Wednesday, Minister Gurung said this.
He said that the Nepali online sector is loose and oriented towards chaos. He said that there has been a development of the tendency to write whatever one wants in the name of press freedom and said that it is necessary to regulate it. He said that although Nepal is a model in the world in terms of cultural coexistence and religious tolerance, there have been activities that have been carried out recently to incite social harmony.
He claimed that online media has not helped in promoting social harmony, mutual unity and religious tolerance. Stating that democracy cannot be strengthened by defaming individuals and society as a whole through hate speech, he also said that the government is working to regulate the online sector. He said that it is necessary for everyone to move forward together to protect Nepal’s cultural and religious identity.
