Bhojpur. In Pauwadung of the district, the rural municipality has distributed chickens to pregnant and lactating women under the ‘Raising oneself, eating oneself’ program. The rural municipality has stated that it has distributed chickens keeping in mind the nutrition of pregnant and lactating women.
As part of the program, one male and two female chickens have been distributed to pregnant and lactating women in all six wards of Pauwadung, informed the rural municipality chair Kiran Rai. Chairman Rai said that they can raise the distributed chickens and use them as eggs and meat as needed.
Nabhin Bhattarai, Chief Administrative Officer of the rural municipality, said that the rural municipality is regularly running this program targeting the health of pregnant women, newborns and mothers.
Jyotsana Rai, Vice-Chairman of the rural municipality, said that chickens will be distributed once a year under the program. There is a rule that they have to raise the distributed female chickens for two years. Vice President Rai said that a carat of eggs is also being distributed to pregnant women every time they undergo a check-up at a health institution.
As part of the program, one male and two egg-laying females were distributed to 12 pregnant and lactating women from five small farms in Pauwadung on Monday.
