36,000 teenage girls being vaccinated against HPV in Banke

Nepalgunj. 36,950 adolescents and girls in Banke will be vaccinated against cervical cancer with HPV vaccine. This information was given at an orientation program organized by the Health Office, Banke here today.

According to Angat Bahadur Shahi, Chief of the Health Office, Banke, the target communities to be vaccinated include 3,183 adolescents and girls in Rapti Sonari, 7,448 in Kohalpur, 4,114 in Baijnath, 5,872 in Khajura, 1,950 in Janaki, 9,319 in Nepalgunj, 2,584 in Duduwa and 2,480 in Narainapur. He said that in the first phase, 22,589 girls and boys from Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City, Kohalpur Municipality, Khajura Rural Municipality and Janaki Rural Municipality will be vaccinated from Magh 22 to Falgun 1.

In the second phase, the target is to vaccinate 12,361 girls and boys from Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality, Baijanath Rural Municipality, Duduwa Rural Municipality and Narainapur Rural Municipality from Magh 30. Chief Shahi informed that the preparations for the first phase of HPV vaccination against cervical cancer have been completed and girls and boys between the ages of 10 and 14 are being vaccinated.

On the occasion, Gyanendra Chaudhary, Chairman of the District Coordination Committee, Banke, urged everyone to make the vaccination program effective and informed that this is a common responsibility of all. Nepalgunj physician Dr. Rajan Pandey said that there is no vaccine against all cancers, but it can be prevented by getting vaccinated, saying that vaccines are a protective shield.

Naresh Babu Shrestha, the vaccination contact person at the health office, informed that the Cicoline vaccine will be available in the vaccination campaign against HPV virus to be conducted in the district to protect against cervical cancer. He said that discussions have been held with Maulana, Imam and Madrasa teachers in Nepalgunj on the issue of vaccination and that girls studying in classes 6 to 10 and girls and boys aged 10 to 14 who are not going to school will be vaccinated.

459 vaccination centers have been designated to vaccinate girls studying in 378 schools in the district. Vaccination centers are located in 378 schools and 81 elsewhere.
