Tanahun. A passenger bus accident occurred on Friday in Satsurasay of Aanbukhaireni Rural Municipality-1 here along the Prithvi Highway. One person died and 13 others were injured when the bus overturned on the road due to uncontrolled movement.
The driver died when a bullet tanker carrying gas crashed in Ghansikuwa, Byas Municipality-12 on the Prithvi Highway on Saturday night. These are just a few examples. In the last six months, 38 people have lost their lives in road accidents in the district. With the expansion of the Muglin-Pokhara road section, accidents have increased due to high speed on wide roads.
In the same period of the last fiscal year 2080-81, 22 people died in accidents in the district. The district has the highest number of two-wheeler accidents. Deputy Superintendent of Police Ashok Thapa of the District Police Office informed that motorcycles and scooters are the most involved in accidents.
The powerhouses located in Kotre, Gachepani, Akla, Gunadi, Kamalbari, Nahala, Bimalnagar, and Aanbukhaireni along the Prithviraj Marg are the places where accidents occur the most. Although in the past, road accidents used to occur due to poor road conditions, the police estimate that the current road expansion has increased the number of accidents.
To reduce accidents, the police have been conducting awareness programs at school and community levels. In the fiscal year 2079-80, 29 people died in road accidents. Similarly, 49 people died in accidents in the fiscal year 2078-79, and 48 people lost their lives in road accidents in the fiscal year 2077-78. Similarly, district police statistics indicate that 44 people lost their lives in road accidents in the fiscal year 2076/77 and 60 in the fiscal year 2075/76.
