‘The government will not back down from the larger project of constructing the East-West Railway’, Minister Dahal said, ‘Discussions have been held with the Finance Ministry to ensure resources.’ He informed journalists that the electric railway is the government’s ‘dream project’ and that there is no possibility of backing down from it.

The government had acquired more than five thousand plots of land in Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari for the project on Jestha 24 and 27, 2077 BS. The landowners have repeatedly demanded that the government vacate the acquired land with appropriate compensation if it does not pay compensation.

The government has blocked 2,457 plots of land in Jhapa, 1,638 plots in Morang, and 1,329 plots in Sunsari for the railway through the land revenue offices of the respective districts.

Minister Dahal has urged construction entrepreneurs to complete the work on time, saying that the construction of physical infrastructure in Jhapa is underway in full swing. He said that the work of the Kankai Bridge on the Hulaki Highway, which was stopped, has also been started, and said, “The construction company has started work after the government prepared to cancel the contract of the contractor company that delayed the work. Now, I am confident that the work will pick up speed.”
