Agency. Syria’s military operations administration has announced the appointment of Ahmed al-Shara as president during the transitional period. Al-Shara will now have the authority to establish an interim legislative council until a permanent constitution is approved. Spokesman Hassan Abdel Ghani said al-Shara will serve as interim president.
Will represent Syria in international forums. He also announced the immediate dissolution of all military factions and revolutionary political bodies with the integration into state institutions.
The 43-year-old al-Shara has led HTS since 2017. He played a key role in the fall of the Assad regime and the establishment of the Syrian transitional government in 2024. Interim Foreign Minister Asad Hassan al-Shibani emphasized a more outward-looking foreign policy focused on Arab cooperation and reducing regional tensions.
