Jhapa. Improved Chaite paddy seeds were distributed to farmers of Kachankawal Rural Municipality of the district on Monday at a 25 percent discount. In a program organized here today, improved ‘Haldinath-1’ variety of paddy seeds were distributed to 60 farmers at a 25 percent discount.
Man Prakash Sangraula, head of Seed Distributor Farm (Agro), said that 2,400 kg of paddy seeds were distributed at a discount. He said that farmers can increase their production as Haldinath-1 rice seeds are suitable for the local climate and soil.
‘We have been encouraging farmers to increase their production by providing improved varieties of seeds,’ he said. ‘We believe that this will provide relief to farmers and help them engage in agricultural work.’
11 farmers who produced more rice from seeds distributed by Agro last year have also been honored. Tilrupa Baral, Bol Prasad Dangal, Roma Bista, Parbata Bhandari, Shantakumar Dhungel, Tankanath Dhamala, Durga Lamichhane, Yashodadevi Niraula, Naramaya Lamichhane, Arpana Kattel Baral and Basana Dhungel were honored.
At the program, the president of All Nepal Women’s Association Kachankawal, Arpana Kattel Baral, an excellent farmer, shared her experience of increasing production through the use of seeds available from Agro. She said that such work will help farmers and encourage them to become self-reliant in agriculture.
Since the farmers’ hard work alone will not increase production, the use of improved seeds will bring positive results in production, said local Laxmi Bajgain. He emphasized that the concerned bodies should provide technical assistance and subsidies to those engaged in agricultural activities.
