‘We were afraid of bears and leopards when we went down from the top of the mountain to the foothills, through the forest and cliffs, and then back up the mountain,’ he said. ‘After the bridge was built, we have been able to walk a short distance safely.’
The bridge was built in collaboration with Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality, Consumers, and the Suspension Bridge Sectoral Support Program (SWAAP). The NGO Milan Myagdi provided social and technical support for the construction of the bridge.
The rural municipality provided Rs. 749,092, while consumers contributed Rs. 115,245 for the construction of the bridge, said Dilu Bitalu, president of Milan Myagdi.
Through the swap program, assistance worth Rs. 4,888,251 has been provided for the purchase of poles, building-off grips, construction materials, transportation, labor wages, and service fees of the NGO. This year, two suspension bridges have been constructed over the Myagdi River connecting Khola Kharka and Hadevir-Khara in Dhaulagiri.

The Kholakharka suspension bridge was inaugurated by Dhaulagiri Vice President Resham Punamagar on Thursday. He said that the suspension bridge, built in a geographically remote and remote area without access to road facilities, has been effective in ensuring safe movement and reducing travel time.
