Kathmandu. Today is Janai Purnima. Every year, Janai Purnima (Rishi Tarpani) is celebrated on the full moon day of Shrawan Shukla Purnima. Janai Purnima is being celebrated by wearing Yajnopavit and Raksha Bandhan from today (Monday) morning.
Today, Raksha Bandhan and Janai are worn throughout the day. Devotees have been thronging temples across the country, including Kumbheshwar in Patan, since this morning.
It is customary to bathe in the morning at religious places like Pashupatinath, Gokarneshwar, Santaneshwar, Kiranteshwar, Devghat Dham in Tanahun, Gosaikunda in Rasuwa, and others, and to wear Janai and Raksha Bandhan, which are chanted by Brahmins and priests in the temples. .

Full moon days Since the morning, the followers of the Vedic Sanatan Dharma go to the river, lake, pond, and pond and take a bath and tie the Raksha Sutra from the Guru Purohit. The Tagadhari ties the Yajno Paveeta and Raksha Sutra, which are chanted by the Guru Purohit in a ritual manner. In the Satya Yuga, when the gods were chased by the demons, Guru Brihaspati prepared a Raksha Vidhan and surrounded them in the form of a shield. The tradition of Raksha Bandhan, which is based on the mythological belief that the extremely powerful demon king Bali was tied, so I bind you, so that you will be safe and not be disturbed, is still prevalent. There is a Vedic tradition of tying the Raksha Sutra while performing Raksha Bandhan, with the mantra, ‘Yen Baddho Baliraja Danavendro Mahabal, Tenatvam Prati Vadhnami Rakshama Chal Ma Chal’. 
Also, there is a mythological story that Lord Vishnu took the form of Vamana to break the pride of King Bali and made Bali place his last foot on his head while begging for alms, promising to stay with him. Hindu scriptures mention that after Lakshmi tied a rakhi to King Bali and made him her brother, she was able to bring her husband Vishnu with her, and coincidentally that day was the full moon day of the month of Shravan, and since then, the festival of Raksha Bandhan has been celebrated.
