Government income and expenditure increased by 39 percent and 35 percent respectively during the half-yearly review period.

Kathmandu. The government’s income and expenditure have been very weak in the half-yearly review period of the current fiscal year. According to the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General, the government has earned 39 percent of the annual target and spent 35 percent by mid-December.

The government had brought a budget of 1860 billion 300 million for the current fiscal year. By mid-December, 667 billion 600 million 190 million has been spent. The expenditure for this period is 35.89 percent of the annual target. Of the 1140 billion 660 million 450 million budget allocated under the current heading, 39.63 percent, or 452 billion, has been spent so far.

The expenditure under the capital heading is even weaker. Of the annual budget allocation of Rs 352.354 billion under this heading, only 16.16 percent, or Rs 56.935 billion, has been spent by mid-December. The expenditure under the financial management heading so far is 43.2 percent. Of the budget allocation of Rs 367.284 billion, Rs 158.6639 billion has been spent so far.

The government has set a target of collecting Rs 1471.6295 billion in revenue in the current fiscal year. By mid-December, Rs 574.7679 billion in revenue has been collected. This is 39.06 percent of the annual target. 38.11 percent or Rs 489 billion 399.2 million has been collected in tax revenue and 51.97 percent or Rs 70 billion 208.2 million has been collected in non-tax revenue.

The government has set a target of receiving foreign grant assistance of Rs 52 billion 326.5 million for the current fiscal year, and so far, foreign aid equivalent to Rs 7 billion 376.0 million has been received.
