NRN’s suggestions are included in citizenship-related procedures: Prime Minister

Kathmandu. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has informed that the work of formulating procedures and regulations related to citizenship has also begun with the certification of the Citizenship Bill.

In a meeting held by a delegation led by Vice President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) RK Sharma on Monday, he expressed his commitment to consider the suggestions of NRNAs while formulating the procedures and regulations.

Noting that the issue of being ‘once a Nepali, always a Nepali’ and wanting to cooperate in Nepal’s prosperity has touched his heart since the past, Prime Minister Dahal urged the representatives of the association to move forward more vigorously in the coming days.

The Citizenship Bill, which was passed twice by the Federal Parliament and sent for certification last Bhadra, was left without being certified by the then President Bidya Devi Bhandari. The current President Ram Chandra Poudel had authenticated it on 17th of this month.

In the meeting, Vice President Sharma thanked the government for paving the way for obtaining ‘Non-Resident Nepali Citizenship’ with economic, social and cultural rights through the authentication of the Citizenship Bill.

He expressed his belief that the motto ‘Once a Nepali, always a Nepali’ would be meaningful, stating that the environment was ready for the protection of the assets and investments of NRNs in Nepal and that the citizenship-related procedures should be formulated and implemented as soon as possible. .

The association has expressed its gratitude for addressing the non-resident Nepalis through policies and programs to guarantee their voting rights and has also requested for their implementation. The association urges to form an autonomous authority by integrating small remittances and creating an environment for investment with assured returns in clean energy and projects of national pride.

In that context, Secretary of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dhanraj Gyawali informed that the citizenship regulations are in the process of being formulated and said that there is a plan to provide citizenship to the first non-resident Nepali from the hands of the Prime Minister. Attorney General Dr. Dinmani Pokharel was also present on the occasion.
