Kathmandu: The current General Secretary of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), Dr. Keshav Poudel, is set to file his candidacy for the upcoming 11th general convention.
At a recent NRNA program organized in Canada, Poudel said that he had decided to lead the organization after receiving suggestions from NRNA elders and NRNA members from various countries.
Although there have been some positive changes in the citizenship issue that he has been promoting since the beginning, Dr. Poudel has said that he will move forward by giving priority to the issue of Nepali citizenship.
Although there is currently a provision for non-resident citizenship, it has deprived non-residents who contribute to the country of other rights, including voting rights. Poudel said that he will take up the issue of maintaining citizenship in Nepal as a priority while there is a provision for dual citizenship in various large developed countries.
Poudel has also made the institutional reform of the NRNA an agenda item in a situation where the organization is large and has not become clumsy and result-oriented. Apart from this, Poudel has also made a plan to be vocal about the major problems of Nepalis living abroad.
Many leaders have positively viewed Poudel’s leadership race, which has given significant time to the NRNA campaign along with the occupational medicine profession when the national conferences of various countries have been concluded.
Poudel, who is working in the US, has received great support from there. In addition, Poudel is optimistic as he has received requests for candidacy from European and Australian countries with large voters.
