Kathmandu. Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has said that the government will encourage the knowledge, skills and capital investment of non-resident Nepalis. Speaking at the 11th World Conference of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), Minister Dr. Mahat said, ‘The NRNA has identified the potential areas for Nepal’s economic growth.’

The youth must be feeling, there is nothing here, others have gone, I too must go abroad, Minister Dr. Mahat said, ‘There is an opportunity here, other countries have been fully developed physically. After going there, you will fit in as a part of a mechanism. But there is a lot of potential here, a gentle approach is needed to see it.’

Minister Dr. Mahat said, ‘Nepal has built a network in hydropower. Currently, 300 megawatts of hydropower is being produced by the private sector. Thousands of Nepalis are investing in hundreds of projects. Investment is being made under the leadership of the World Bank in the Upper Arun Project, while the Asian Development Bank is investing in Dudhkoshi. We have asked for a loan at a concessional rate.’

‘Hydropower will become an important part of economic growth. We have gained a lot of experience and knowledge in this, now non-resident Nepali friends should join it,’ he said, ‘We want to take forward the Budhi Gandaki Reservoir Project.’

Minister Dr. Mahat said, ‘The second possibility for investment is in the information technology sector. 50 million software is exported to the UK annually. Not only the UK, software is being exported to other countries as well. Unlimited income can be earned from software exports.’

Our mentality is that whatever is going on, will go on, and it should not be said that it will take some time to break it. Minister Dr. Mahat said, ‘Another sector is tourism. It also plays an important role in economic development. Those who have gone to the Middle East and Korea have returned with knowledge along with small capital. They have already started small businesses. We have adopted a policy to protect production. The government protects subsidies and taxes. The government has a plan to increase production through this.’

‘There is a lot of negative sentiment in Nepal, now spread positive sentiment. When you talk negatively, it flows more on social media. Nothing happens in this country, they do nothing, they have only come to spoil it. The feeling has been spread that they only do bad things. There are good people in all sectors,’ said Minister Dr. Mahat, ‘Let’s not put them in the same basket saying that everyone is a thief, everyone is a fraud. Let’s encourage those who are working honestly. NRNA is the right platform to spread a positive message. The message you have said reaches from relatives, relatives and friends living in Nepal to neighbors.’

Since 046, our gross domestic product has increased by 60 times, per capita income has increased by 7 times, and the average life expectancy has increased from 54 years to 72 years. Minister Dr. Mahat informed. The revenue ratio has doubled in the ratio of gross domestic product, access to electricity is more than 97 percent. Road networks have reached villages, and the infant mortality rate has decreased to 27. The maternal mortality rate has decreased from 254 to 151, Minister Dr. Giving information, Mahat said, ‘Despite this, there is no room for complacency that we have achieved this achievement, the expectations are very high.’

‘This is the era of social media. The world is connected through mobile phones, Nepalis are generous in this regard. Even though we have to cut corners, we are at the forefront in using smartphones’ Minister Dr. Mahat said, there is no room for us to explain what happened yesterday, why we could not do it, no one wants to hear that. Other countries have reached there, why haven’t you reached it?’

Minister Dr. Mahat said, ‘We have gone through many difficulties including conflict, instability, earthquakes. We cannot be satisfied by giving the same excuses. Therefore, whatever we have done with a clear roadmap for the future is not enough, whatever efforts have been made from yesterday to today is not enough, now the challenge is to work more with a goal, honesty and dedication.’

‘There should be no limits to fulfilling a person’s desires, abilities and qualifications. The government does not say to leave the country by giving a passport, this is the freedom of the person. Enjoying this freedom, millions of Nepalis have gone abroad to fulfill their aspirations, Minister Dr. Mahat said, ‘But don’t you always have to go abroad, I think, non-resident Nepalis return. Some should return when they are young, some should return when they are old. Because there is an opportunity here, we should look at this opportunity with a positive perspective.’
