The office said, “Farmers have stopped coming after Poush 19, many farmers have sold their rice, so this year’s rice purchase will be almost the same.” “We could not fulfill the quota of coarse rice as per our target, but the quota of medium rice was almost fulfilled. The coarse rice did not arrive as per the demand and expectation, but the medium rice did arrive as per the demand and we purchased it,” he said.

He said that the rice procurement work in Banke this year has almost ended as farmers stopped coming after Poush 19, did not even call and did not get in touch.

He informed that farmers in Banke have recently been attracted towards medium rice production rather than coarse rice. The Nepalgunj office, which started purchasing rice 15 days earlier than last year, had set a target of purchasing 40,000 quintals this year, but after the pressure from farmers selling medium rice increased, the food department, in agreement with the central office, set a target of 55,000 quintals by purchasing an additional 15,000 quintals of medium rice.

The office stated that rice was purchased from farmers at the minimum support price set by the government, with coarse rice priced at Rs 3,410.51 and medium rice priced at Rs 3,580.62. According to the office, this year coarse rice was priced at Rs 26.1 million, 21.33 million and medium rice at Rs 87.2 million, 69 thousand, and medium rice at Rs 100.62. 23 paisa, for a total of Rs 113.33 million. Paddy worth Rs. 71,295.88 paisa was purchased.

Although 673 farmers in the district registered recommendations at the local level for the sale of paddy, the office has stated that only 568 farmers and five cooperatives brought rice for sale were purchased.
