Ministerial Secretary Krishna Bahadur Raut said that the operation of the mining industry would reduce the trade deficit and economic development could be achieved by exporting iron to the international market. He informed that discussions are underway regarding the issue of 55 percent government and 45 percent private sector investment to operate the iron industry, which will be built at a cost of around 52 billion rupees.

During the interaction, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s Economic Advisor Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada suggested that the iron industry should be operated under the leadership of the government and with the participation of the private sector. He said that the government and the private sector should move forward together to operate the Dhaubadi iron industry.

The company’s Executive Director, Dr. Janak Bahadur Chand, said that it is necessary to quickly implement the company’s future work plan to achieve the company’s goals and objectives on time.

In 2068 BS, an iron mine was discovered in the Pokhari, Durulanga and Dhaubadi areas of Hupsekot Rural Municipality-5. The mining area of the mine is spread over about 41 square kilometers. The goal is to start commercial production from the mine from 2085 BS.

It is said that if the mine is operated, about 2,500 people will get direct employment and 25,000 people will get indirect employment. The mine is expected to produce 1,500 tons of iron ore per day.

The government formed the Dhauwadi Iron Mine Limited in 2076 BS. When the mine is operating at full capacity, it is expected to meet more than 25 percent of the demand for iron and iron-based materials that Nepal is currently importing. RSS
