Kathmandu. The Ministry of Health and Population has proposed collaboration with hospitals run by security agencies to reduce the pressure of patients in government hospitals.
In a meeting held today with the Inspector General of Police and heads of health institutions run by the army, Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Poudel proposed collaboration to provide services if the ‘operation wards’ in hospitals run by security agencies are vacant when there is a situation where patients have to wait in line at government hospitals.
Minister Poudel said, ‘The pressure of patients is being managed by adding ‘shifts’ and working overtime in federal hospitals. When the government is under pressure, how can we provide treatment by ‘referring’ to security agency hospitals? Collaboration is necessary.’ He also urged suggestions on making the health insurance program effective in security agency hospitals.
Last week, the ministry formed a task force under the leadership of Additional Secretary Dr. Tank Barkoti to prepare a necessary blueprint for managing the pressure on government hospitals in collaboration with security agency hospitals.
Similarly, Minister Poudel urged the army to provide assistance as there is no air ambulance to rescue citizens in emergencies. The meeting was attended by Inspector General of Police Basanta Kunwar and high-ranking army officials.
